For the very first time Ultra HD 4K/3D film cameras have been allowed inside the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel, bringing never before seen art to theaters across the U.S. just in time for the holiday season. VATICAN MUSEUMS 3D will be in theaters everywhere beginning December 10 in partnership with Fathom Events, and will be shown in 2D and Real 3D.

The combination of cutting-edge cinematic 3D techniques used by filmmakers like James Cameron and Tim Burton was enacted to capture this mega production by a team of 40 professionals. Taking an approach that is intimate yet emotional and with striking breadth, VATICAN MUSEUMS 3D narrates, contemplates and further heightens the beauty of such extraordinary Catholic art work as “The School of Athens” by Raffaello and Michelangelo’s frescos decorating the Sistine chapel, including the creation of Adam and the majestic “Last Judgment,” and works by Raffaello, Leonardo da Vinci, GioIo and Caravaggio. Relatively modern artists such as Van Gogh, Chagall, Dalì and Fontana also will be featured. It’s a unique, thrilling journey conducted under the authoritative guidance of the director of the Vatican Museums, Professor Antonio Paolucci.

In addition to the feature film, theatergoers will be treated to an exclusive 22 minutes of insightful “behind the scenes” extra features, only for theatrical audiences, as Paolucci; the film’s director, Marco Pianigiani; and the director of photography recall both the challenges and the triumphs involved in the making of this masterpiece.
